KNITTING FOR THE SOUL: CREATIVE CONTEMPLATION

Tatamagouche Centre, Tatamagouche, Nova Scotia

01-03 February 2008,
Friday 7:00 pm-Sunday 1:00 pm

For information and to register, contact the Tatamagouche Centre at: or 1-800-218-2220

As knitters, we know that the rhythmic movement of our hands and fingers, as they translate a length of yarn into objects of beauty and function, also brings us to peace and balance. Knitting becomes an avenue for exploring the soul.

Share a week-end retreat, in the beautiful rustic setting of the Tatamagouche Centre, with other knitters. We will experiment with colour, texture and form as we each begin to knit our own “Soul Shawl”.

We will also learn a number of contemplative practices to use in collaboration with our knitting as we investigate the soul more deeply.

Knitters of all levels of experience are welcome (basic knitting skills are required.)

Come to knit & unwind anytime after 3:30 pm, stay for dinner, and the program will start at 7:00 pm.

The retreat will be led by:

Ilga Leja, knitwear designer of Ilga Leja Handknit Design (www.ilgaleja.com) and life-long knitter. Ilga has incorporated contemplative practices in her own knitting and design work and will discuss some of her approaches.

Barbara Shaw (Tatamagouche Centre’s Program Resource Group), holistic health practitioner, inspired by song, gardening and earth-centered spirituality. Her tactile nature loves the warmth and textures of wool and the fellowship of "women's work".
