BO very loosely kwise.
Edging:
Work a Garter Stitch edging at both short ends of the scarf as follows:
With RS facing, pick up and knit 23 sts along one short end. When picking
up each st, insert the needle into the back loop of each slipped stitch along
the edge (i.e., the one on the farther side).
K 3 rows.
BO very loosely kwise. If necessary, use a larger needle
to bind off.
Repeat for the opposite end.
Weave in any loose ends. Leave generous tails about 8 cm./3 in. long.
Wash and block the scarf, allowing it to dry thoroughly before removing the
blocking pins. Trim the yarn tails flush with the fabric. Now the scarf is
ready to wear!
Glossary:
BO = bind off
CO = cast on
dec = decrease(s); decreasing
k = knit
k2tog = knit 2 stitches together, inserting the right needle
into the front loops of the two stitches at the same time. This creates a
right-leaning knit stitch decrease.
kwise = knitwise
LH = left-hand
p = purl
pm = place marker
pwise = purlwise
RH = right-hand
RS = right side of work
sl = slip/slipped
sl m = slip marker
ssk = slip first stitch from LH needle knitwise, slip next
stitch knitwise, slide left needle pwise into front loops of slipped stitches
(without removing the RH needle). The RH needle will still be inserted in
the back loops. Knit the 2 sts together. This creates a left-leaning knit
stitch decrease. Also known as “slip, slip, knit”.
st/s = stitch/stitches
wyif = with yarn in front of work. The yarn is carried across
in front of the stitch. The “front” is considered the side facing you as
you work.
yo = yarn over. To achieve a yarn over, bring the yarn forward, between the
needles, to the front of the work, then take the yarn over the RH needle to
the back of the work and continue to knit (or purl) the next stitch or stitches.
