I would love to start some squares like knit a square in favor of the orphaned South African Children.  How would I find the pattern?

Yes! I see a structured shawl with sort of short row wedges mirroring the angle of the banners; maybe in Kauna wool? long colour repeats?  just stay far away from hats with this one!

I am so happy to be a new member. My husband is Latvian and I showed him your site… He says your name is Latvian. I am a relatively new knitter (taught myself two years ago). I am 31 and in the middle of my biggest project yet. A four foot warm, wool shawl for my mother-in-law in Jurmalas. I can’t wait to visit later this year and present her with it. Your site gives me even more inspiration, and my next project will be to make a sweater for my father-in-law. So, I am happy to have found your blog, and would welcome any English reading recommendations you might have for Latvian knitting techniques. Thank you!!
