Afternoon Breezes

Here is the final pattern in this summer's Linen Collection: Afternoon Breezes.
A light and airy openwork vest, it is worked in a Filet Mesh stitch pattern, which gives it a graceful, feminine drape. So light on the body that it reminds one of gentle afternoon breezes.

The stitch pattern with its double yarn overs is easy enough to work. But there are some construction details that have prompted me to list this pattern's skill level as "Experienced". The vest itself is worked sideways, beginning at the left centre front, proceeding around the back, and ending at the right centre front--with armhole shaping along the way.
Short rows are inserted along the fronts and at the sides, giving the vest an A-line silhouette.

Afternoon Breezes is knit with Handmaiden's Flaxen. This gorgeous linen and silk blend yarn is perfect for a drapey, open design like this. The colour pictured is a light version of the "Bronze" colourway. It would look equally beautiful in any of the colours here.
This was a very pleasureable knit for me. I found it worked up quickly with enough construction changes along the way to keep me interested. The collar with its unique version of the openwork pattern was particularly satisfying.

Summer's last, lightweight knit, before tackling those heavier projects for fall and winter. Also for some of you, the last bit of knitting for yourself before launching into gift knitting for the holidays.
