Short Rowing Across the Atlantic
I am delighted to announce my collaboration with designer Jane Thornley in producing the joint e-book: Short Rowing Across the Atlantic.
Both Jane and I have been working with the technique of short rows for some time. Then Jane came up with the idea that suited the two of us, since we both live near the Atlantic Ocean: the idea of "short rowing across the Atlantic".

I loved the idea and set out to design a shawl that represented the Atlantic for me.
Jane began with the Shoreline:

She used short rows to reflect the changing wave patterns along the beach, complete with the sea-foam edge. She has also incorporated beads and embellishments to add even more texture to her shawl.
I took on the Mid-Atlantic:

Where the ocean currents run deep and waves can be dark and brooding.
I used two muted colourways of Noro Silk Garden--with lots of greys, purples, mauve, and deep sea green.

The Short Rowing Across the Atlantic e-book contains both of our patterns and reflects our diverse styles.
Jane and I worked on each of our projects separately so that we would not be overly influenced by the other. We did not consult with each other until each of our projects were already underway.
The result is two patterns, each different--and equally beautiful. Each able to give the knitter a unique knitting experience.
Jane's playful Shoreline shawl is worked in her signature free-form mode, leaving lots of room for creativity and experiment.

While my-Mid-Atlantic shawl has a pre-planned structure that can also be interpreted in different ways with choice of colour and yarn.

Our designs reflect our undeniable love for the Atlantic Ocean--and the place where we live. Two designers, one inspiration.
