Indonesia Scarf
The scarf pattern for the International Year of the Scarf Club this month is Indonesia.
Using colour, texture, and form, this pattern was inspired by the beautiful terraced rice fields of Indonesia.
The interlocking stitch pattern of the main section recalls green layers over the expanse of a field, while the ruffled edging, with its pronounced knit-stitch ridges, isolates the individual rice stalks.
The main section of the scarf is worked first in one piece and can serve as a scarf in its own right, without the edging. This version is suitable for men as well as women.
The ruffled edging, in the Accordion Pleat Stitch, is picked up and knit along each long side for that added touch of interest as it frames the face.
I used Fleece Artist's Woolie Silk 3-Ply in the colour "Moss" for this version of the Indonesia scarf. A solid or mottled solid shows up the stitch pattern.
