Felted Bowls

felted_baskets_012_400
Just in time for holiday gift giving, a pair of oval-shaped Felted Bowls.

During my recent love affair with felting, I came up with this pattern and am offering it as my current Free Pattern.

These are quick and easy to make. You can make one in an evening or two. They are worked in the round from the base up and are then felted in the washing machine. They are in two sizes. So if you are really short of time, you can just make the smaller one.

I used an aran weight yarn (Lucy Neatby's Celestial Blue Faced Aran), in solid colours, to make my two baskets. But you can work these in any wool yarn that can be felted. The base is worked in Garter Stitch and the sides are worked in Stockinette Stitch. So you can experiment with colours. Try stripes or even a simple fair isle pattern.

Consider this a template that you can design in your own way. Fill your felted bowl with candy, soaps, fruit, or nuts, and you have a gift ready to go.

Happy holiday knitting!
