When There is Not Much Time Left…

There is still time to make some special gifts this holiday season.
Along the Boulevard offers two scarf options, for him or for her, each using only one skein of a light/medium weight yarn. Work it in a handpainted colourway or a solid colour.
The Summer in the City pattern includes a one-skein shoulder capelet version which can be worked up in an evening or two.

Since it is knit from the top down, you can work to any length you wish. Or until you run out of yarn or time. It's a great choice for using up that skein of handpainted yarn that hasn't found a project yet.
Another all-time favourite is Balsam. It can be worked for women or men or even a child (if you reduce the number of repeats in the circumference.)

No time to knit the whole piece? Then just work the tube part as a neck warmer. Or the increased section alone as a shoulder capelet.
Brickwork has an easy-to-remember lace pattern that is particularly effective with a variegated yarn. One skein will give you a respectably sized scarf. Just cast on and work until you run out of yarn.

This version was knit with 200 g. of a fingering weight yarn, Celestial Merino in "Sugar Maple". But you can work it in any yarn you like. Even a chunky yarn would do. Just reduce the number or repeats in the width--or you'll end up with an afghan instead.
There are a lot more scarf pattern ideas on the Shawls and Scarves page.
And for all those upcoming parties, there's On the Town, in the vibrant colours of the season, worked with only one skein of Lucy Neatby's delicious Cat's Pajamas (with 10% cashmere). So lovely to wear against one's skin.

This may be one you'll want to make for yourself.
Happy Holiday Knitting!
