Open House at the Basket of Yarn

Last Saturday I had the pleasure of attending the annual Christmas Open House at the Basket of Yarn in Tantallon on the South Shore of Nova Scotia.
Susan Doyle, the owner, had graciously invited me again this year to come and show my latest designs. Just like last year, it was a lot of fun. And just like last year, it was packed with people.

Answering questions, comparing notes, trying on garments, handling yarn, catching up with old friends, making new ones, eating lots of goodies (there was lots of food!), drinking delicious coffee. What better way is there to spend a Saturday afternoon?
I was reminded, yet again, how lucky we knitters are, to have instant communities, wherever we gather. All our differences vanish as we share our enthusiasm and energy around the creative process of knitting. We become friends, without question.
During one of my "presentations", I was able to tell everyone about the International Year of the Scarf knitting club and there was a lot of interest in it. Since then, quite a few of the knitters from the Open House that day have signed up.
After the hubbub died down, Susan and I had a chance to catch up with each other. She told me how her year had been going and what her plans were for the New Year. Her husband, Patrick, took the traditional Christmas picture of the two of us.

I am wearing the In the Courtyard vest. And the On the Town cowl is hanging on its hanger just behind us.
In the meantime, Susan had also knit up another version of In the Piazza for the shop. It just so happened that it fit me perfectly, so we went to the lakeside behind the shop and took more photos.

Susan's version is knit with a Sirdar yarn called Peru (50% wool, 40% acrylic, 10% alpaca). The subtle gradations in colour made this an excellent yarn choice for this design.
Thanks for a great day, Susan and Patrick!
