Sea Urchin Dress

Now that some real summer weather has finally arrived, I have been able to photograph the longer version of Sea Urchin, the Sea Urchin Dress.
We went back to one of my favourite beaches on the South Shore of Nova Scotia, Cleveland Beach. And were graced with the most glorious sunny, hot day, perfect for swimming and frolicking on the beach.

This variation on the Sea Urchin was knit for me by the lovely and very talented Lisa Ladouceur. This was to be a version of the Sea Urchin pattern that I would be able to wear, worked in a larger size than the original. Knowing that I was tall, she had the brilliant idea of adding repeats to the lower border, to lengthen the midriff section.
And when I blocked it, it came out even longer than we had expected.

The Sea Urchin Dress is knit in Lucy Neatby's Celestial Merino, colour "Mermaid".
Because of the construction of this piece, you can lengthen it to any degree you wish. Just work the Lower Back (and Lower Front) for as many extra "Wave Pattern Stitch" repeats that suit you. Because it is worked from the midriff section down, you can adjust as you go.
Want to go even longer? No problem. Just keep adding more repeats. It would be advisable to add some width as you go, by increasing evenly every few rows along each side.
Or just leave long slits at each side for more seductive appeal.
At the end of the day, I was the one who wore the Sea Urchin Dress and then got to wear it after leaving the beach.
