Queen of the Waves in Kauni

If ever there were a design of mine properly suited to Kauni Effekt yarn, it had to be the Queen of the Waves.
I felt sure that, no matter which colourway I chose, the Queen would look good in it. I decided to stay with the theme of the ocean and chose Kauni EZ with its blues and teals and subtle greens. No surprise that I named this colourway "Ocean". It has all the nuances of colour that one sees in the sea.

Richard Stilwell of Halifax, Nova Scotia knit this version of the Queen for me. I cannot begin to describe what a beautiful job he did. The photos just don't show off the precision of his work. Richard is a relatively new knitter, but a very talented one. He designed a lace shawl which won "Best of Show" at this year's Atlantic Winter Fair.
I love the Kauni version of the Queen. It highlights all the features of the Faroese shawl design: the central gusset; the gently sloping decreases as one works from the long, bottom edge to the last few stitches at the centre neckline; and the Garter Stitch base which makes this a reversible piece. The shawl, because of its unique shaping, sits comfortably on the shoulders and doubles as a jacket.
And yet it functions as an ordinary shawl as well.

You can order the Queen of the Waves kit for $49.00 CAD (yarn plus pattern) in any of the Kauni colours .
It's just about time to put away our winter coats and pull on a shawl instead. The Queen in Kauni will fit the bill perfectly.
