Knitting for Him by Martin Storey and Wendy Baker

Knitting for him does not have to be boring...
Quite the contrary, as this book well demonstrates. Some of you will have read my earlier blog about "Designing for Men" and how limiting it can be. Because I would like to include some designs for men within my own repertoire, at least from time to time, I am always on the look-out for interesting designs for men.
Knitting for Him by Martin Storey and Wendy Baker is an example of classic and elegant designs for men, with just enough of a contemporary look to make them unique. Of course, cables feature strongly, but in more striking colours.

Or with a bolder silhouette.

True, the styling continues to be classic and rather conservative. But it is the interpretation that Storey and Baker give these designs that make them unique and eye-catching.
Fair isle, long a staple in knitting for men, is given a new twist here, too.

Each design in this book of sweaters, scarves, caps, socks, and vests is solid and well-conceived. No mis-steps here.
Because of the range of patterns, Knitting for Him serves as a reference book for me. A good place to start from whenever I need motivation to knit something classic for men.
