Too Soon to Knit for Summer?

When the temperature is always below freezing, it is hard to imagine that it will ever be warm enough for Wharf 'n'Weave and a pair of shorts.
But if you live in Australia where it is summer and you are in the middle of a heat wave, knitting with cotton (or perhaps a light linen) may be the only kind of knitting you could contemplate right now. Cathy in Australia has taken the muted palette that I had chosen for this design and given it some pizazz.
You can read about her version and see more photos on her blog.
This little slip-stich number is fun to knit, the colours interplaying with differing effects. The easy-to-remember slip stitch pattern is co-ordinated with an easy lace stitch. Hence the lightness and airiness.

Here is my unfinished version, in darker, cooler colours. It has been sitting on my needles for far too long, calling me to leave all those "fancy, new ideas" behind and get back to more contemplative, relaxing, rhythmic knitting, the kind you get with Wharf 'n' Weave.

Both Cathy and I have worked it with three colours. But there is nothing to stop you from adding more colours, like Kaffe Fassett or Brandon Mably would do, and coming up with your own striking combination. Make the I-cord lace in yet another colour and jazz it up even more.
Maybe it is time for a little more colour, in anticipation of summer...
