On the Town
With the holiday season coming up, this vibrant cowl is the perfect accompaniment for an evening "On the Town".
I had wanted to come up with a design which uses just one skein of a luxury yarn. Something that would be practical, but fun to wear as well. When I first saw--and felt--Lucy Neatby's new yarn, Cat's Pajamas , I wanted to work with it immediately. And I wanted something that I could wear close to my skin, too.
Hence the "On the Town" cowl/mini-capelet was born, with just one 100-g. skein of Cat's Pajamas in the cololur "Fiery Fuchsia".

This easy-to-knit neck decoration is worked in the round from the top down in a Garter Stitch Rib pattern which expands outwards over the shoulders. The bobbles which garnish both the neck and the shoulder edges give this piece its festive flair.

Because it is worked from the top down, you can make this to any length you want. Expand the neck portion and you have a hood. Expand the shoulder portion and you have a capelet.
Take any fingering weight/sport weight yarn you have on hand and adapt to your specifications. Because it is worked in a handpainted yarn, no two will be alike.
The version below was knit by Julie Leclerc in HandMaiden's Casbah Sock, another luxury merino/cashmere blend. In this sultry, more mysterious rendering, one is reminded of Cleopatra.

What mood do you want to evoke?
With the myriad of yarn choices available, you can make as many as you want, one for each evening of the holiday season....
